Hua Hin attractions

Hua Hin is the oldest beach resort in the Kingdom of Thailand. It has been transformed from a fishing village in a fashionable beach resort in the 1920's with the construction of a railway station here in the reign of King Rama VI (1910-1925) and the Klai Kangwon summer palace (Far From Worries) during the reign of King Rama VII in 1926.

The beautiful, colonial style Railway Hotel was built near Hua Hin's famous rocks in 1923 by the State Railway Authority. In 1924 Thailand's first golf course opened, the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course.

All these developments have set the stage for Hua Hin's popularity and unique ambiance, which remains to this day. There are many places to see in and around Hua Hin.

Khao Takiab or "Chopstick Mount" is a large mount sticking out of the sea. It is located south of the town of Hua Hin. The visit to the hill and temple is made easy by the construction of a road which goes up and down one way. Another ring road provides a "round the hill" spin, with more scenic spots to admire and photograph.

Khao Takiab is visible from Hua Hin beach. Approaching the hill from the beach, one will see an imposing majestic statue of the 20m tall Lord Buddha towering on some rocks at the foot of the hill. In fact the statue can be seen kilometers away from land and even more nautical miles from horizon.

On the top of the hill there is a temple (Wat Khao Lad). One can find erected around the temple not only Buddhist statues and images, but also a 10-metre tall statue of the Chinese Goddess of Mercy, or Kwan Im, a statue of King Rama V, as well as a few other religious figures, all of whom are much revered by Chinese and Thais alike.

The Khao Takiab Hill is 272m high. From there you are offered the incredibly picturesque panorama of Hua Hin coast.

Hin Lek Fai Hill (Flintstone Hill) is located about 1.5 km west of the city center and provides a panoramic view of Hua Hin, the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course below and the Gulf of Thailand beyond the town.

There is a new park at the top of the hill with many flowers, shrubs, trees and bamboo groves. Next to the first view point there is a statue of king Rama VII with an information about his life. Next to the parking is exotic birds centre.

Paths are through the park leading to lookout spots with breathtaking views. It is worth to see all three see view points as they show diffrent paronamic view of Hua Hin. The best time to go when there is a clear day.
The road to the top is very steep. Only very strong should try to make their way to the top on bike. Vehicle transport is recommended. On the way to hill you visit some temples.

Maruekatayawan Palace is one of the oldest and most attractive royal palaces in Thailand. The Maruekatayawan Palace was constructed by His Majesty King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) in 1923 as a place where he could fully relax in great comfort amid a naturally serene atmosphere.

The architectural design of the raised-floor wooden palace, with its three sections facing the sea, was drafted by the Monarch himself. Following the completion of the interior decoration in 1924, the King gave it his first visit and stay. His last visit to this seaside palace was made only a few months before his demise in 1925.

There are several temples in and around Hua Hin, the main being Wat Ampharam in the center of Hua Hin town. This large complex is home to the many monks that can be seen collecting alms in the early morning.

The temple at Bor Fai (Wat Bor Fai) has some impressive ponds teeming with catfish which you can feed after a small donation to the monks, it's located about 5km north of Hua Hin (turn left after the PTT station opposite Anantara Resort).

There are also the the temples at Khao Takiab and one to the west of Hua Hin (Wat Khao Krailas) with some impressive Buddha statues.

Khao Sam Roi Yot (means three hundred peaks) - it is Thailand's first marine national park. Located 35 miles south of Hua Hin, between Pranburi and Kuiburi, the park opened in 1966 and preserves some of the country's finest shoreline habitat, including sprawling marshes filled with water fowl. More than 200 bird species have been sighted in the nearly 100-square-kilometer park, along with monitor lizards, mongooses, deer.

Kaeng Krachan National Park was established in 1981, the 28th National Park in Thailand. It is the largest national park in Thailand, with 1,821,875 rai (2,915 square kilometers) of forest in the watersheds of the Phetchaburi and Pranburi rivers. It includes portions of Amphur Nong Ya Plong, Amphur Kaeng Krachan, and Amphur Tha Yang in Phetchaburi Province and of Amphur Hua Hin in Prachuab Khiri Khan Province. The Kaeng Krachan area includes a reservoir lake, beautifual scenery, waterfalls, caves, mountains. It is almost entirely covered with evergreen forest, which supports ecologically, economically and scientifically valuable plants and animals, including many wild elephants. The park is an excellent place for recreation and education, and it is carefully protecte.
